Playing for Keeps

Combine a kid’s sports film involving soccer and a romantic comedy with several beautiful women and you have the film Playing For Keeps. Gerard Butler is an former soccer star who would like to connect with his ex-wife played by Jessica Biel and his opportunity materializes when his son’s soccer coach quits leaving him the job. Dennis Quaid is a businessman soccer dad who is constantly giving him money and unfortunately he is also mercilessly chased by attractive soccer moms played by Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Judy Greer making it difficult to be looked at as a responsible dad. (It’s hard to believe I said it’s unfortunate to be chased by hot soccer moms) I’m still not sure why so many A list women stars signed up for this film but I’m glad they did. (I half expected Angelina Jolie to show up as a referee) The all-star cast made up for the less then exciting script. Even though this movie wasn’t hilarious it was humorous, charming and fun. It is a straight forward story that doesn’t drag but does entertain. This film is not a top notch rom-com but I will give it a C+ rating.

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
