Cowboys and Aliens

Jon Favreau the Director of the Iron Man movies turns his directing skills to the action, western, sci-fi film Cowboys and Aliens. The time is 1873 in New Mexico and a cowboy played by Daniel Craig wakes up with a bracelet on his arm and no memory of who he is and rides into the small town of Absolution. He isn’t welcomed by the sheriff played by Keith Carredine and the town folks or a wealthy cattle baron played by Harrison Ford and his men until the town is attacked by aliens and they need his help. (I have a hard time even writing this without grimacing) I really, really wanted to like this film and it does begin with a realistic feel for a western story and even good character development. With the actors I already mentioned along with Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell the acting was outstanding. Maybe it’s because I’m blind and couldn’t see the great special effects or because aliens in the old west just don’t seem to belong together but I had a hard time staying focused on the story. Maybe cowboys and Indians scaling the side of a spaceship without the aliens inside realizing it then dynamite being planted on the outside was a little hard to swallow. (Maybe that is one of those scenes my wife should have forgotten to tell me) This is definitely one of those popcorn films if you check your brain at the door you may have a marvelous time. I’m giving this unique film a C+ rating.

This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
