Batman vs Superman, Dawn of Justice

DC comics has finally taken the first step in beginning it’s own superhero team called Justice League of America with the action adventure film, Batman vs Superman, Dawn of Justice. Bruce Wayne aka Batman (Ben Affleck) has been watching an alien from the planet Krypton destroy the city of Metropolis and voices his concerns to his butler Alfred (Jeremy Irons). The alien he is talking about is Clark Kent aka Superman (Henry Cavill) who some people think of as a god and others are afraid of because of his super strength. Superman is also keeping his eye on Batman and his dark persona and when they eventually clash the destruction and violence is tremendous. During their battle they realize that an evil genius named Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) is the person responsible in pitting the Titans against each other. The two eventually set aside their differences to capture Luthor, only to find that he has created a giant super-being to destroy the duo. The battle is going badly for the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader but fortunately another superhero, Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) has been watching them and joins the fight with her gold bracelets and magic lasso. There is a heart wrenching ending, but we’re all hoping Justice League of America will clear up any confusion. Speaking of Justice League, during the film we are introduced to three more superheroes: Barry Allen aka The Flash (Ezra Miller), Arthur Curry aka Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Victor Stone) who we will see in the upcoming sequel. When I was a kid DC Comics were my favorite comic books and Super Friends was my preferred cartoon on Saturday morning, so needless to say I was really looking forward to this movie. Thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. Not just for the action scenes – which didn’t drag on for 20 minutes – but for the great story and to have the Justice League coming together. Obviously these aren’t my superheroes from years ago, and this movie is much more violent and darker then the Dark Knight trilogy. (Well, I’m blind so I guess it wasn’t any darker than usual to me. LOL) The acting by Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg was absolutely fantastic. Other great actors appearing in this film are Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. I have to admit I was worried about the two and a half hour running time but it was fast paced and was over almost before I could say Zowie! Deleting 10 or 15 minutes off the beginning would have been better and editing the lengthy introductions of Batman and Superman would have definitely helped. This is a must see for all comic book fans, action junkies, and basically, men of all ages. I’m giving this thrill ride a B- rating.

This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.  I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
