Zoolander 2

In 2001, Ben Stiller both directed and starred in one of the funniest films of the decade and he is back with another dose in, Zoolander 2. Male models Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) have been out of the public eye for the last ten years, and are unaware that Justin Bieber and other famous Hollywood people are being gunned down. (For some strange reason, no one in the movie expressed any interest for the killer of Justin Bieber.) Swimsuit model turned Interpol Fashion Agent, Valentina (Penelope Cruz) asks Derek and Hanzel for help finding the murderer and in return she will help Derek find his estranged son, Derek Jr. In the meantime, Derek is invited to Rome for an extravaganza on the catwalk by Alexanya Ataz (Kristen Wiig). Derek and Hansel have some funny scenes with male beautiful model, All (Benedict Cumberbatch) and other models while their enemy Mugatu (Will Ferrell) breaks out of jail. The original Zoolander movie was released after 9-11 and it flopped, but since then it has become a cult classic. I’m going to cut right to the chase and say this film is irritating, stupid, boring, and criminally unfunny. (Still not enough adjectives to describe this awful movie.) The main reasons for my negative comments are that none of the characters are remotely funny, the story makes no sense, and there are several subplots that fizzle and die. They were conscientious enough to include a large number of cameos by pop stars like Joe Jonas, Kiefer Sutherland, Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, Macaulay Culkin, and Demi Lavato just to name a few. (Unfortunately that doesn’t help me – I can’t see them anyway.) Luckily, I didn’t have to pay to see this film because I would have been upset. I did chuckle once or twice and that is the only reason I’m not dropping it below a D rating.
