Draft Day

If you watch the NFL draft and enjoy football, you’ll probably enjoy the sports drama, Draft Day. It’s 13 hours before the NFL draft and Sonny Weaver, Jr. (Kevin Costner) General Manager of the Cleveland Browns trades his first round pick away for the next three years, then has the first pick. (If you don’t understand the sentence maybe this film isn’t for you.) Unfortunately, the pressure is on him not only from the coach of the team, Vince Tenn (Dennis Leary) and all of the fans from the city who are tired of a losing team, but also from his girlfriend Ali (Jennifer Garner) who tells him she is pregnant. This is actually a fast paced film for a sports drama. From the beginning of the movie the viewer feels the pressure of the general manager struggling to make the correct decisions while wondering what the heck he is doing. NFL fans will enjoy this film even though it doesn’t really have any action scenes. They will see plenty of cameos from announcers and football greats like Deion Sanders, Jon Gruden, Mel Kiper, and many more. Even though this film doesn’t have an exceptional story, the ending surprises the whole audience. If you aren’t the target audience you may think it is an average film at best, but I enjoyed it and I’m giving it a B- rating.

This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA
