The Wolverine

Jays Rating:

Hugh Jackman has played the character of Wolverine in five X-Men films and he returns for the sixth time in the action film, The Wolverine. When a young Japanese woman named Yukio (Rila Fukushima) finds Logan-Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), she tells him her grandfather Yashita (Hal Yananouchi) would like to talk to him and give him something special. When Logan arrives in Japan he is immediately pulled into a samurai assassination plot and as Wolverine, he has to fight a super strong robot and a fellow mutant named Viper (Svetlana Khobchenkova) possibly to the death. As expected, Hugh Jackman is convincing as the Wolverine and has no trouble carrying the film himself. (According to my wife who was drooling over Jackman sans his shirt – he can carry anything.) This film has a nice setup, introduction, and even a nice action-filled ending with some nice plot twists. Much to everyone’s disappointment, the middle of the film is flat and quite honestly, a little boring. There were a couple plot points that just didn’t make sense, but overall it’s a fun movie. If you’re looking for something a little different, keep in mind this is the first X-men film that’s in 3D. It has it’s flaws, but if you’re a Wolverine fan this is a must see and I’m giving it a B- rating.

This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA
