This Is The End

Writer, director, and actor, Seth Rogen gathers together an ensemble cast to play themselves in the comedy, This Is The End. The story begins when Seth Rogen picks up Jay Baruchel from the airport and they go to a celebrity party at James Franco’s house. When they arrive they’re hanging out with Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson when an apocalyptic event hits. The rest of the celebrities scatter and some are killed, so Seth and the guys need to work together to survive and things get pretty funny. This film has some hilarious scenes, but also has some slow periods with no humor when the audience is awakened with something funny or a scary situation. Yes, there are plenty of frightening scenes with people being killed, demons appearing and even a decapitation. (Okay, maybe it would be kind of funny kicking a head on the floor.) Unfortunately, with such vulgar horror scenes and raunchy language it’s hard to enjoy the really hilarious jokes. (This is one of those films where I’m not sure if it would be better to be blind or deaf.) Some favorite celebrities who show up playing themselves or parodies of themselves are Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Rihanna, Paul Rudd and Channing Tatum. This may be a fun film for the college crowd but I’m giving it a C rating.
