The Big Wedding

Jays Rating:

Hosting an all-star cast The Big Wedding is a comedy Based on the French film Mon Frere Se Marie. Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton play Don and Ellie, a divorced couple that have to pretend to be married when their adopted son played by Ben Barnes plans a big wedding with his Columbian girl friend played by Amanda Seyfried because their families are coming in from out of town. Unfortunately Dons girlfriend played by Susan Sarandon is the caterer at the wedding and the couple’s dysfunctional adult children played by Topher Grate and Katherine Heiglwho come in for the wedding and they has issues of their own. You would think a film with such a top notch cast would b great but think again. The biggest problem with it is the script. The whole movie revolves around sex jokes. They either have too much sex, not enough sex, sex in weird places and on and on. I think the only one that doesn’t have sex is the priest played by Robin Williams who was very funny. Yes there are some funny jokes and site gags but others are just repulsive. (Maybe I’m just getting old) Also since this is made from a French movie it’s not uncommon for European comedies having trouble converting over to a Hollywood movie. I’m giving this so-so film a C- rating.
