The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Combining Magic and humor The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a heartwarming film and also an over the top comedy. Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and his best friend Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have been friends since they were kids who have now made it in Las Vegas as headliner Magicians. When their show becomes stale and an outrages new Magician named Steve Gray (Jim Carrey) begins stealing their audience their assistant Jane (Olivia Wilde) leaves them and it takes a toll on their friendship. This film is just what you would expect with silly jokes and quirky sight gags. This is not necessarily bad because with such a talented cast there is never a dull moment. Jim Carrey is at his best, Steve Carrell is solid as the lead character James Gandolfini is funny as a motel mogul and Alan Arkin steals the third act as an aging magician. The script is actually something new and has several surprises that aren’t spoiled by the trailers. It does has some hilarious moments but it mostly just good clean fun that will have you leaving the theater with a smile on your face. All of the magic tricks that involve power tools aren’t especially ideal for kids but I never saw any blood. (A blind guy seeing blood would e a magic trick in itself) I’m giving this entertaining film a B rating.
