Robert Zemeckis directs his first live action film since Castaways in 2000 with the drama Flight. Denzel Washing plays a pilot who does the impossible by landing a commercial airliner upside-down after a mechanical failure thus saving the majority of the people on the plane. After a toxicology report shows that he was using alcohol and drugs before the flight there is an investigation but he continues to drink and battle his alcoholism. This movie has action, comedy and drama and most of all a fantastic performance by Denzel Washington. I know the trailers make it look like an action film but it is really a character study of Washington as an alcoholic and he is very convincing. Maybe I couldn’t smell alcohol on him from my seat (or see him) but I can usually tell a fake drunk act from a mile away but not this time. The supporting cast of John Goodman, Don Scheadle and Bruce Greenwood was icing on the cake for an outstanding supporting cast and a fabulous movie. Unfortunately there was just not enough material in the script for a 2 hour and 15 minute film so it is a tad bit to long. (Maybe my talking watch was a little slow) I’m giving this gripping, entertaining film an A- rating.

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
