Ten years ago Morgan Freeman played the character Alex Cross in James Pattersons crime novel series but reboots are the flavor of the day so now we are treated to a new film with a different actor simply titled Alex Cross. Tyler Perry plays the Washington D.C. detective Alex Cross and he is pursuing a sociopath killer played by Matthew Fox who kills his victims and tortures them. When Alex Cross zero’s in on the killer he turns and fights back and innocent people are killed. I remember Morgan Freeman in the two Alex Cross films Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider and thought this film would be a disaster. I was wrong, Tyler Perry and Matthew Fox do a fine job and I have a new respect for Perry. Now this doesn’t mean this is a fantastic movie because there are several problems. First it’s hard to connect with the characters because they are all one dimensional and I still have no idea why the villain made the choices he did. Also in a crime thriller you hope to find some thrills or at least a new idea or thought but both were missing. This is one of those films you enjoy for two hours and will probably forget what it was about next week. (Okay I forgot what I had for breakfast this morning so what’s new) I’m giving this film a C+ rating.
This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA
Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
