Safe House

CIA agents on the run are nothing new and likewise there is really nothing original in the latest spy thriller Safe House. Denzel Washington plays a rogue CIA agent who turns himself into the authorities and is then taken to a safe house in Cape Town South Africa where he is interrogated. When the safe house is attack by mercenaries the traitor and a young CIA operative played by Ryan Reynolds flee from the safe house not knowing who they can trust. This film is full of gunplay, car chase scenes and people running over the rooftops of the city. You would think with plenty of action and the presence of the incomparable Denzel Washington this would be a film to rush out and see. Unfortunately the script is one dimensional with some corny dialog and expected plot holes. It just doesn’t have what it takes to be a great crime thriller like the Bourne films and in fact I along with most of the audience will not remember it in several weeks. (Of course I probably won’t remember what I had for breakfast in a couple hours) I wouldn’t pay 10 dollars to see this movie at the theater but this will be an excellent film to rent on DVD in several months and I will give it a C+ rating.

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
