If you are in the mood to see a teenager kill people with guns, knives, arrows, and hand to hand combat then you will probably be scrambling to see the action, adventure film Hanna. Hanna is a 16 year old girl played by Saoyrs Ronna (actress in the Lovely Bones) with special powers living with her father, played by Eric Bana in Northern Ireland. One day when her dad is out hunting Hanna flips a switch on a box given to her by him and is soon on the run from a merciless CIA agent played by Cate Blanchett. I don’t know what I expected from this film besides action but I couldn’t find any logic or motivation for the movie. Usually there is a mission or theme to most films and I guess this message to teenagers is that if you feel like you want or need to kill something just gives in to those feelings. Syras Ronan did a fine job but the whole story resolves around one character and that is tough for a young actress. Techno Music from the Chemical brothers give the film a fast pace ride but It was a little over the top at times. Not all is bad with visits to exotic locations and beautiful wilderness scenery which I couldn’t see anyway. This movie is a little Like Kill Bill and some people even say this is good cinema but along with the locales and scenery I don’t see that either. I’m giving this Violent, coming of age film a C rating.
This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA
Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
