No Strings Attached

Friends with benefits is the phrase for people who want to have sex with no attachments and the basic premise for the romantic-comedy No Strings Attached. Adam (Ashton Kutcher) is an assistant television producer who begins looking up any girl he can find when he learns his father Alvin Tary (Kevin Kline) is sleeping with his ex-girlfriend Vanessa (Ophdlia Lovibond). He accidentally runs into and has sex with a beautiful Medical student named Emma (Natalie Portman) who he had met 10 years before as a teenager at camp. She is to busy with her residency at the hospital for a relationship and he doesn’t want another girl friend so they decide to just have sex at any time, any place with no emotional commitment and no jealousy. Everything is going along fine until Adam begins to have feelings for Emma so she tells him that they should begin to see other people. (I know what you guys out there are saying) With formulaic romantic, comedies like this you expect it to be funny and it is but you need more. The more in this case is the fantastic chemistry between kutcher and Portman. From the beginning you really want the two to get together and they do in more places then I could have thought possible. Of course the audience wants a permanent relationship and they aren’t disappointed. Surprisingly with the main theme of the movie about sex there are no really graphic love scenes, no nudity and no really vulgar sight gags. (All this according to my wife) My only complaint was that some of the one-liners were really crude which seemed to be okay with the 20 something audience members. (Maybe I’m just getting to old) People who like this type of film will love it, people who don’t will not even go and see it and I will give it a B- rating.

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
