This must be the year of the old action stars because first we had the action films The Expendables and now we are treated to the action, comedy RED. Bruce Willis is an Ex-CIA agent who has the letters RED (Retired, Extremely Dangerous) stamped on his file and he is living a boring life talking to a federal clerk played by Mary Louise Parker on the phone about his retirement checks until a group of assassins break into his house. After escaping the killers he finds out where his government worker girl friend is living and takes her to his old steam of ex-spy’s played by Morgan freeman, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich to find out who wants them all dead. This film is based on the graphic novel of the same name and has all of the clichés characters that you would expect. There is absolutely nothing new in this movie but it’s all about the journey and not about the destination. The most enjoyable aspect about this movie is the old action stars with cameos by actors like Ernest Borgnine and Richard Dreyfuss. (Of course I’m way, way too young to remember either of those guys) John Malkovich and Helen Mirren steal every scene they are in and even though Morgan Freeman is under used they all seem to be having fun. You will have to love action films or some of the old stars to appreciate this movie and I’m half way there and so I’ll give it a C+ rating.

This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
