The Back-Up Plan

Jays Rating:

Jennifer Lopez stars in the ultimate chick flick about a woman who is about to have a baby in the romantic-comedy The Back-Up Plan. Jennifer Lopez is a pet store owner who wants a baby and has just been artificially inseminated and when leaving the doctors office she meets a guy who sells organic goat cheese played by Alex O’Loughlin. (No I’m not making that up) Of course the two begin to fall in love and fight and break up a total of three times when at the end of her pregnancy her water breaks and instead of going to the hospital she takes a car to the farmers market where he works to make up with him before she goes to the hospital. (That is so stupid I’m embarrass writing that last line) This is one of those movies that give romantic comedies a bad name. The material is just horrible, it is so formulaic and most of all it’s just not funny. On second thought there is the disabled Boston terrier. (Wait that’s not funny) Then there is the single mothers support group. (Wait that’s not funny either) This film is just a vehicle to show off Jennifer Lopez before she is too old to play these types of roles. Actually she does as well as she can with this script. When checking out the synopsis, trailers, and so on I thought surely they have a back-up plan but apparently not. This film is watchable but very forgettable and I’m giving it a C- rating.

This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
