Pixar has made nothing but great animated movies in the past so with the latest collaboration with Disney it’s natural to watch to see if they will stumble in the adventure, animated film Up. Edward Asner is the voice of Carl Fredricksen a 78 year old retired balloon salesman who ties thousands of balloons to his house to fly to South America. (I always thought that would work) The problem is that an 8 year old wilderness Explorer scout named Russell who is trying to earn his “Assist the Elderly” badge accidentally stows away on the flying house with Carl. This film has believable characters, a smart script, funny jokes and most of all an emotional story. It’s also in 3 D but the story is so engaging that I even liked it in 0D. Along with the colorful 78 year old character there is a mythical bird, an absent-minded squirrel and a talking dog. I just kept thinking that I wish I had a talking seeing eye dog that could say watch your step, don’t walk in front of that car and watch out, don’t go into the ladies restroom again) This film is a masterpiece and like usual somebody at Pixar is “thinking outside the box”. There is also a fantastic 5 minute short film named “Partly Cloudley” before the main film begins and I’m giving both of them an A rating.
This movie has been given a PG rating by the MPAA
Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
