Death Race

In the mid 70’s the film Death Race 2000 became a cult classic and in an attempt to cash in on the popular name we now have a new action film titled Death Race. The year is 2012 and the most popular extreme sport on television is a Race to the death orchestrated by a greedy prison warden played by Joan Allen in heavily armored cars driven by prisoners. When a steel worker- race car driver played by Jason Statham is framed for murdering his wife he is sent to prison for life just in time to compete in the 3 day race accompanied by his new navigator played by Natalie Martinez. (What a coincidence.) This film fails on so many levels and with only about 5 minutes of Character development the problems begin early. The acting was adequate at best and that is probably the result of lousy directing by Paul W. S. Anderson. The script is pieced together around the action scenes and the plot holes are big enough to drive one of the race cars through. With words like “death” and “race” in the title the movie was pretty boring. (I’m surprised one of the drivers didn’t fall asleep at the wheel like I almost did in my seat.) This film could have been much better but it also could have been worse so I will give it a D+ rating.

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
