Horton Hears a Who

Another of Dr. Seuss’s book has been adapted for the big screen for the third time with the animated film Horton Hears A Who. Jim Carrey is the voice of Horton the loveable elephant who finds a speck of dust on a flower that is home to an entire city of creatures called Whos. Steve Carell is the voice of the mayor of Whoville and the only one who can hear Horton while the rest of the Who’s are oblivious to the fact that a Kangaroo with the voice of Carol Burnett is trying to destroy the flower. It’s hard to make an hour and a half movie out of a 10 minute book and it shows. It was padded to fill screen time and the film sputtered in the middle. On the good side the voice cast is outstanding and the adaptation from the book to movie is straight forward without any surprises. It’s also entertaining and has a nice message to “believe in what you can’t see”. I obviously couldn’t see this film so I’m going to believe this was an exciting movie for the kids. (The children say I’m correct on this opinion.) This film could have been better but I enjoyed it and I’m giving it a B- rating.

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
