The Manchurian Candidate
Jays Rating: A. So good blind people like it!
Actors: Denzel Washington / Meryl Streep
Director: Jonathan Demme
One of the most thought provoking films this year is a remake of a 1962 political thriller The Manchurian Candidate. During a reconnaissance mission in the gulf war in 1991 a group of soldiers lead by their Major played by Denzel Washington and a sergeant, his second in command played by Liev Schreiber are attacked and later find out are brainwashed. Thirteen years later the sergeant is a candidate for vice-president with the heavy support of his senator mother played by Meryl Streep. This is a dialogue driven, thought provoking movie with superb acting and a riveting plot. This movie is so interesting and moves so quick I lost track of the time. Maybe I should say I didn’t know the time because I couldn’t see my watch. This is one of the years best films and I’m giving it an A rating.
