The Sweetest Thing

Yes, another movie with stupid sex jokes, grotesque humor and a raunchy road trip. I’m talking about the romance-comedy the Sweetest Thing. I didn’t find anything sweet about this smut. Christina (Cameron Diaz), Jane (Selma Blair), and Courtney (Christina Applegate) are three fun-loving roommates living in the San Francisco area. One night while Christina, who is afraid of long term commitments, is out on the town with her roomies, she meets Peter (Thomas Jane) and is instantly attracted to him. After a verbal altercation (can you say good first impression) he tells her he has to leave because of a wedding he has to attend in another city. Courtney tells Christina they need to go on a road trip and meet Peter at the wedding. Yes, another teenage road trip except these two bimbos are in their thirties. Christina reluctantly agrees and they eventually make it to the wedding, but when they see Peter they’re in for a surprise. Thomas and Christina have a juvenile romance – they want to date, then they don’t. Then they argue, then they make up and that was within the first five minutes of meeting each other. If I could have found the trashcan, I would have thrown up my popcorn. This film was poorly directed and was not very funny. There were a few scattered laughs, but the sex jokes were so vulgar I wish I were deaf instead of blind. The funny scene at the driving range is one of the few parts that saved this movie from falling below a D rating.

This movie has been given an R rating by the MPAA

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
