The antics of a mother-daughter con-artist team are the romantic-comedy Heartbreakers. Max (Sigourney Weaver) and Paige (Jennifer Love Hewitt) have just scammed New Jersey chop-shop owner, Dean Cumanno (Ray Liotta) out of several hundred thousand dollars. After depositing the money in the bank, they head to Palm Springs to find a new victim and set their sights on a billionaire tobacco tycoon named William B. Tensy (Gene Hackman). Max tries to get close to Tensy by pretending to be a Russian art collector. To get Tensy to notice her, she buys a nude statue that he really wanted, then she accidentally breaks off – how can I say it – one of the lower extremities. Tensy has the statue repaired but “it” gets broken off again. Remember, I can’t see, so my wife had the pleasure of filling me in on the details. Max eventually gets Tensy alone in hopes of hearing a marriage proposal, then the unexpected happens. In the meantime Paige meets Jack (Jason Lee) and plans to scam him out of the bar he owns worth three million dollars. The only problem, Jack is a really nice guy and Paige begins to have romantic feelings for him. This is a fun movie with outstanding actors and great one-liners. There is a lot of off-color humor and I would recommend you leave the kids at home. Anyway, why should they see Jennifer Love Hewitt in skimpy outfits when I can’t?! I give this cute film a B rating.
