Space Cowboys

Grunts, groans, light humor, and plenty of action best describe the film Space Cowboys. It’s the year 2000 and a forty-year old Russian communication satellite is about to enter the Earth’s atmosphere. NASA needs to find someone to go up in a space shuttle to fix the old, out of date satellite. Who they gonna call? Not Ghostbusters! They call four retired astronauts. First, NASA contacts seventy year old Frank Corvin (Clint Eastwood), who designed the initial satellite guidance system in the late 1950’s. When asked for his help, Frank says only if the rest of his air space team from the 1950’s goes up as a team. NASA reluctantly agrees – IF the old geezers pass all of the stringent physical requirements. Frank, along with the rest of his team members, Hawk Hawkins (Tommy Lee Jones), Tank Sullivan (James Garner), and Jerry O’Nell (Donald Sutherland) began training along with the younger NASA astronauts. You might wonder, “How they could possibly finish the rigorous training?” Easily! They have less to carry around: less muscle, less hair, and fewer teeth. They do manage to finish the intense training and launch into space where the suspense and action really begins. This is an endearing drama that is so fun and entertaining it’s easy to overlook some of the minor flaws. The chemistry between the lead actors was great and I give this action-comedy a B rating.

This movie has been given a PG-13 rating by the MPAA

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
