The General's Daughter
Jays Rating: C. I had one eye open.
Actors: John Travolta
Director: Simon West
A suspense-filled mystery that involves rape and murder is The Generals Daughter. General Campbell, the military base commander, has a daughter named Capt. Elizabeth Campbell, who is found naked, strangled, and staked-out in the middle of a field. Don’t you hate it when that happens? Warrant Officer Paul Brenner, played by John Travolta, is ordered to investigate the murder and report his findings directly to the General. Sounds easy, right? Brenner begins his investigation at the home of the murdered woman. With the assistance of Warrant Officer Sara Sunhill, played by Madeline Stowe, they retrace Capt. Campbell’s activities. When they were searching the basement of her house, Brenner noticed light coming from around the edges of a military poster. He and Sunhill check behind the poster to find a door leading to a separate room. They also find themselves in the middle of a pornographic movie set. They search the room until they find a tape in a VCR and view an explicit film of Capt. Campbell with different men. I guess they didn’t need a blind movie critic for one of those films. They began questioning some of the men from the movies and each one tried to stone- wall the investigation. Some of the men even beat Sunhill and threatened to rape her. Brenner and Sunhill eventually found long lost information about Capt. Campbell that shed new light on the investigation. This is a simple thriller with no real energy or appeal. It does have some nudity and a graphic rape scene. I was with my wife, so I told her I wouldn’t look and I closed my eyes. I give it a C rating.

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
