Dunkirk
Jays Rating: B. I'm glad I could hear it.
Actors: Cillian Murphy / Harry Styles / Tom Hardy
Director: Christopher Nolan
Christopher Nolan writes and directs the historic events surrounding the evacuation of British, Canadian, and French soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk during World War II in the war drama, Dunkirk. Thirty-eight hundred soldiers are nervously waiting to be rescued by the navy after being pushed back from Belgium, France. On the beaches, thousands of infantrymen like Tommy (Fionn Whitehead) and Alex (Harry Styles) are being shot at and bombed. One of many shell-shocked soldiers (Cillian Murphy) has a hard time dealing with the dozens of men dying all around him. In the air, RAF spitfire pilots Farrier (Tom Hardy) and Collins (Jack Lowden) use their phenomenal maneuver skills to fight off German bombers. On the water, hundreds of civilian sailors like Mr. Dawson (Mark Rylance) try to reach the beach to rescue the soldiers and take them back across the English Channel to England. This film isn’t about one specific soldier but shows the fear and the bravery of all the men in the allied army. I was hoping to be educated about the battle at Dunkirk, but it was more of a reflection of the personal experiences than the war itself. My wife said I missed the beautiful yet horrific scenes that make this movie so unique. She said I also missed the expressions on the faces of the men not only when they were being shot at, but when they saw the hundreds of boats coming to their rescue. (Okay, blindness isn’t always a blessing.) Hans Zimmer’s score was fantastic and really kept up the suspense. Using the sound of a ticking clock and making the audience hope that time doesn’t run out for the men on the beach. Even though this is a fantastic film, I couldn’t hear much of the dialogue – which doesn’t help when you’re trying to learn the facts and you’re blind. This film was very well made and I’m giving it a B+ rating.
This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA
Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals. I rely more on a good story line than special effects
