Clint Eastwood directs the true story about America’s most deadly sniper in the action drama American Sniper. Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) is a sniper with the Navy Seals and during four tours of duty in Afghanistan he has over 160 confirmed kills. While in the battlefield we witness Chris making split-second decisions about whether to take someone’s life, saving his friends lives with his lethal shooting, and his fellow soldiers calling him “Legend” because of his pin-point accuracy. Between tours he goes home to his wife Taya (Sienna Miller) but he feels like he should be back on the battlefield with his fellow soldiers. He eventually becomes so involved in the war that it affects his relationship with his wife and children. During the time Chris is on the battlefield the film tells the back-story in a series of flashbacks about Chris as a child, his relationship with his father and his life before the military. Bradley Cooper is excellent playing Chris Kyle. He has the Texas accent down perfectly and he can be emotional as well as dangerous when killing the enemy. This is one of Clint Eastwood’s best work yet, both entertaining and a work of art. The action junkies will enjoy exploding heads and body’s torn apart by a sniper bullet. (I can only imagine.) This biography has its flaws but it’s powerful and compelling and I’m giving it a B+ rating.
