The Soloist
Jays Rating: B. I'm glad I could hear it.
Actors: Jamie Foxx / RObert Downey Jr.
The film The Soloist is a human drama based on a true story about a journalists named Steve Lopez who writes a story highlighting a musician who lives on the streets in Los Angeles. Robert Downey Jr. is a newspaper man who meets a homeless man playing a violin with only two strings and writes a series of stories about him in the Los Angeles Times. It seems the man Nathaniel who is played by Jamie Foxx was a young man at one time who played a cello at Juilliard but dropped out when he showed signs of schizophrenia and began living on the streets. This is a compelling story about interesting people and fantastic music that just doesn’t hit all the right note. With so many possibilities this film doesn’t really go anywhere and in fact it often exaggerated where it wasn’t needed. For example a reader doesn’t send a cello but an arthritic old lady and Robert Downey Jr. hast to slip on urine for a little slapstick comedy. None of that is the fault of the two main actors and in fact Without Jamie Fox and Robert Downey Jr. This film would not have been as good. This movie is a nice change of pace from comedies and action films and I’m giving it a B- rating.
This movie has been given a PG-13 rating by the MPAA
Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
