In 1964 Vincent Price was in “The Last Man on Earth” and in 1971 Charleston Heston played in “Omega Man” and now Will Smith reprises the same role in the thriller I Am Legend. It’s 2012 and Will Smith is a scientist who is the last man in New York and possibly the world because a virus made to combat cancer mutates and Kills everyone else. He broadcasts daily on a radio asking for other survivors to contact him and at night he hides from vampire like ghouls who are infected by the plague. Will Smith’s performance is fantastic and he makes you know what it would feel like being alone. The film itself is gripping, intense and to make it more interesting it has some intelligent updates. The worst problem with this movie is some of the unrealistic circumstances. For example the utilities still work in the city 3 years after everyone is gone and the mutants set an elaborate trap but can’t figure out how to use a weapon just to name a few. This film has a simple plot and the audience will love to sit back and put their brain in neutral and have fun. (That is unless you are blind and have to try to figure out what is happening during the long spells without dialogue.) I’m giving this Science fiction film a B rating.

This movie has been given a PG13 rating by the MPAA

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
