Disney is back – excluding Pixar for the first time in many years – with the kids flick Chicken Little. This is the story of a small, nerdy high school chicken named Chicken Little (voice by Zach Braff) who runs through town yelling, “The sky is falling!” after an acorn falls on his head. His urgent announcement causes wide spread panic that results in cars, homes and businesses being destroyed. (Sounds like Chicken Little Hurricane) Just as things are looking up for Chicken Little (no pun intended) another piece of the sky falls and hits him on the head. Soon Chicken Little and his loser friends, Abby the ugly duckling, (voice by Joan Cusack) a pig named Runt (voice by Steve Zahn) and Fish (a fish that didn’t talk and reminded me of Kenny from South Park) are able to deduce that the piece of sky is really part of a cloaked alien ship about to attack the earth. In the past, Chicken Little’s father Buck Cluck (voice by Garry Marshall) had been hard on him but now he tells him he believes in him and Chicken Little can do whatever he wants to save the town from the aliens. I guess the moral of this story is: if your kid wants to jump his skateboard over a car you should believe in him and allow it. This film is colorful, energetic, has a great voice cast and even some funny gags. Notice I said “some” funny gags. If you throw out enough jokes some will hit. Besides not being real funny it’s just not the best script. It lacks focus and is all over the place with aliens, baseball and a message about so called “Bad Dads.” Kids will probably love this movie but it only put me in the mood for a piece of fried Chicken Little. This is a decent film and I’m giving it a C+ rating.
This movie has been given a G rating by the MPAA
Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals.
I rely more on a good story line than special effects.
