Three childhood friends are reunited as a result of tragic events in the violent, disturbing and unforgettable film Mystic River. Jimmy Pin (Sean Penn) has an average life with a wife and family until his daughter is suddenly murdered. His childhood friend Dave (Tim Robbins) now a homicide detective and his partner Whitey (Laurence Fishburne) -Morphis to all of you Matrix fans- begin an investigation based solely on a 911 call from a young boy. With no leads and no suspects Jimmy becomes frustrated and begins his own investigation. Sean (Kevin Bacon) the last of the 3 childhood friends becomes a suspect in a sad story that leads to a tragic ending. Everything does come together in this suspense thriller. There is great character development, superb acting, and powerful music -or lack of music- when needed. Someone said it was as though the directing came from an ex-actor who had never seen a light-hearted romance film before. Not surprisingly, C lint Eastwood is the director so they are correct. I thought he did a fabulous job maintaining the storys dark intensity. Of course my famous line is, All movies are dark to me. Im giving this emotional film an A rating.
